NTDC secures Rs 6400 million financing facility

EVACUATION OF 1224 MW POWER FROM WIND POWER PLANTS

The National Transmission and Despatch Company Ltd (NTDC) has secured Rs 6400 million financing Facility from Consortium of Banks (Habib Bank Limited, National Bank of Pakistan & Bank Islami Pakistan Limited). The financing facility will be utilized for the construction of 220 /132 kV substation and 35 km long allied Transmission Lines to evacuate 1224 MW clean renewable energy generated by wind power plants located at Jhimpir Wind Corridor. Managing Director NTDC Engr. Muhammad Ayub signed the contract of financing facility with Mr. Asad Altaf GM Corporate Banking Head (Central) HBL, Mr. Zia-ud-Din Tahir Unit Head NBP (Corporate) and Mr. Amir Ashraf Head Corporate (Central) Bank Islami during a signing ceremony held at WAPDA House Lahore. Managing Director NTDC has said, for the first time NTDC has explored the option of raising a financial facility at its own resources (balance sheet) without GoP guarantee. Whereas, previously, it had relied on GoP guaranteed loans from the local market. This financing facility would be a precursor for more funding for upcoming NTDC projects. He furthered said that PC-1 cost of the Jhimpir-II project is Rs 10.753 billion and the funding required was Rs 6.40 billion. The project will have sufficient capacity to transmit more power in future. To meet the future developments in Gharo-Jhimpir wind corridor, the 220 kV grid station will be upgraded to 500 kV capacity in coming years. Deputy Managing Director NTDC Mr. Safdar Ali, Chief Financial Officer NTDC Mr. Wasim Saadat and other senior officials from NTDC and Banks were also present on the occasion.

DOE launches $500m effort to turn mines into clean energy hubs

A $500 million program funded by the bipartisan infrastructure package aims to transform current and form mines into clean energy hubs. The Dept. of Energy (DOE) issued a Request For Information (RFI) to inform how the program will support clean energy project development. The clean energy hubs could feature solar photovoltaic systems, microgrids, geothermal energy, direct air capture, fossil-fueled power generation with carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration, energy storage, including pumped storage and compressed air, and advanced nuclear, DOE said. Two of the clean energy demonstration projects funded under this program must include solar energy and DOE is seeking information from respondents about opportunities to use domestically-manufactured solar for these projects. DOE is seeking feedback from a wide rang e of stakeholders, including industry, community organizations, environmental justice organizations labor unions, and state and local governments. Public input is sought on how to design the program such that it will best encourage private-sector investment in similar projects leading to economic development for underserved communities located near current and former mine land while advancing environmental justice.

Additional bandwidth is being added to resolve internet issues says PTA

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced that internet service providers are adding additional bandwidth as an alternative arrangement for internet issues being faced by users across the country. Internet connectivity was disrupted due to a fault in an international submarine cable. The telecom authority said Trans World Associates (TWA) had communicated to them that there was a service degradation in the international connectivity towards Europe on the SMW5 cable system due to a subsea fault near Abu Talat, Egypt. “Work is underway to rectify the fault however it may take some time until the fault is removed completely,” said the PTA in a tweet. It assured internet users that it was monitoring the situation and will continue to update internet users in Pakistan. A day earlier, PTA had informed users about problems that Pakistanis may face in internet connectivity due to the fault. The telecom regulator did not mention a timeline regarding the restoration of services.

Moin Malik took the charge of TCS logistics as its CEO

TCS has announced the appointment of Moin A Malik as CEO of TCS Logistics Private Limited. Malik has an illustrious career in the logistics industry with which he has been associated for over three decades. Before joining TCS Logistics he was the CEO of Agility Pakistan, a company he led for over 20 years. Malik’s first tenure at TCS started in 1984 and by the time he left in 1997 he had held many senior management positions. Pak Suzuki halts new bookings of its bikes and also raised the prices

Pak Suzuki has directed its dealers to stop taking new orders of motorcycles from July 1, according to a notification issued by the company, as supply-chain issues hinder production. Industry officials say the company has been unable to import completely knocked down units (CKDs) due to restrictions on the issuance of Letters of Credit (LC) by the central bank. The issue has impacted the wider auto industry which has been unable to continue the production process. “We don’t know when the company would be starting taking orders again,” said a Pak Suzuki motorcycle dealer. “It can be a week, two weeks, or a month.” On the other hand, Suzuki has also released a new motorcycle rate list to its dealers – raised prices by up to Rs10,000. The company raised the prices of GD110S, GS150, and GS150SE by Rs7,000. The new prices are Rs219,000, Rs239,000 and Rs256,000, respectively. The price of GR150 has been increased by Rs10,000. The new price is Rs349,000. The new rates are effective from July 2. Suzuki also jacked up prices of its motorcycles in June 2022. The increase comes after Atlas Honda and Yamaha, the other Japanese bike-makers in the country, also jacked up prices of their motorcycles with effect from this month.

Tesla’s deliveries fall due to China’s COVID shutdown 

Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) delivered 17.9% fewer electric vehicles in the second quarter from the previous quarter, as China’s COVID 19-related shutdown disrupted its production and supply chain. The world’s biggest electric car maker said that it delivered 254,695 vehicles in the April to June period, compared with 310,048 vehicles in the preceding quarter, ending a nearly two-year-long run of record quarterly deliveries. A resurgence in COVID-19 cases in China had forced Tesla to temporarily suspend production at its Shanghai factory and also affected suppliers’ facilities in the country. Tesla is ramping up production at the Shanghai factory with the easing of the COVID-19 lockdown, which will help boost deliveries in the second half. Early in June, Ch

Musk has said demand for Tesla vehicles remains strong, but supply-chain challenges remain. In June, Tesla again hiked prices for some of its models in the United States and China after Musk had warned of significant inflationary pressure on raw materials and logistics.June 2022 was the highest vehicle production month in the company’s history, Tesla said in a news release. Analysts had expected Tesla to report deliveries of 295,078 vehicles for the April to June period, according to Refinitiv data. Several analysts had slashed their estimates further to about 250,000 due to China’s prolonged lockdown. The world’s most valuable automaker has posted record deliveries every quarter since the third quarter of 2020, weathering pandemic and supply-chain disruptions better than most automakers. China has been instrumental in Tesla’s rapid increase in vehicle production, with the low-cost, lucrative Shanghai factory producing roughly half of the company’s total cars delivered last year. Musk said in April that Tesla’s overall vehicle production in the second quarter would be “roughly on par” with the first quarter, driven by a China rebound. But he recently said Tesla had a “very tough quarter,” citing production and supply-chain challenges in China. Musk also said Tesla’s new factories in Texas and Berlin are “gigantic money furnaces” losing billions of dollars as they struggle to increase production quickly. Tesla shares have fallen 35% so far this year, hit by Musk’s $44 billion proposed acquisition of Twitter Inc (TWTR.N), the China lockdown, and macroeconomic uncertainties.

Sources said that he died after being transferred to a hospital with lung problems. He was given a state funeral at Faisal Mosque before being laid to rest at the H-8 graveyard in Islamabad. Dr. A.Q Khan was born in 1936 in Bhopal, British India, he had immigrated along with his family to Pakistan in 1947 after the partition of the subcontinent. He had a degree in science from Karachi University in 1960, then he went to study metallurgical engineering in Berlin, and later he completed his advanced studies. He was awarded the Nishan-i- Imtiaz for the services he rendered to the country “CALL OF DUTY” After learning that the rival country India, had done the nuclear test ‘Smiling Buddha’ in 1974, Dr. A.Q Khan joined his nation’s clandestine efforts to develop atomic weapons where several greats were already working on making the country a Nuclear-Armed state, it was that moment when he founded the Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) in 1976 and performed his duty both as to its chief scientist and director for many years. Surely he was one of the most genius minds and most patriotic people this very land has ever produced. still today the whole world seems amazed and not able to solve the riddle that how a country like Pakistan who was not economically strong and not technologically advanced can create a nuclear deterrence to counter the much larger enemy on its eastern border, even when “WORLD POWERS” was against Pakistan. It was a part of a great plan formed by the genius and patriotic persons behind Pakistan’s Nuclear Programme to turn all the impossible into the possible. “28th of May 1998 – A DAY TO PROUD UPON”

Mr. Rehman Nasir to me we all met Dr. A.Q Khan on different occasions, I still remember when the first time I met him in the IEP building in Karachi in December 2012, at that time I was 19 years old, he was a chief guest of that event, I found him such a ground to earth person with a very polite nature, he said to me “WE HAD DONE OUR JOB FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY NOW ITS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, THE YOUTH OF THE COUNTRY TO CARRY ON OUR LEGACY TO SERVE THE NATION, TAKE CARE OF IT AT ALL COST”, I have no doubt in that Dr. A.Q Khan is a definition of patriotism. What more a one could say or write about him no words can describe what he has done for the country, surely this day shall be remembered for always and this country shall never forget him, we are in debited to him. May ALLAH grant him the highest rank in Jannah Ameen.  

WAPDA generated 8854 MW hydel electricity during peak hours on the night of 12 September 2021

HYDEL POWER GENERATION HITS HIGHEST LEVEL IN 2021

TERBELA HYDEL POWER STATION

The electricity generation by WAPDA hydel power stations surpasses 8800 MW during the peak hours on the night of 12 Sep 2021, which is the highest hydel electricity generation during the current year.

According to the generation details, WAPDA delivered as much as 8854 MW of electricity to the National Grid during peak hours last night. This quantum of hydel power share registered an increase of about 1277 MW if compared with that of the previous year. This increased share of hydel electricity in the National Grid is the result of maximum power generation from Tarbela Hydel Power Station and Tarbela 4th Extension Hydel Power Station. The statistics of the hydel generation during the peak hours show that Tarbela Hydel Power Stations cumulatively generated 4926 MW much higher than the installed capacity of 4888 MW. Mangla Hydel Power Station contributed 920 MW, Ghazi Barotha 1450 MW, and Neelum Jhelum 850 MW while other hydel power stations cumulatively shared 708 MW to the National Grid. At present, WAPDA owns and operates 22 hydel power stations, including Neelum Jhelum with a cumulative installed generation capacity of 9406 MW. These hydel power stations provide about 37 billion units of electricity annually on average to the National Grid. The share of hydel generation greatly contributes to lowering the overall tariff for the consumers, as electricity generated through other sources is far costlier than hydel electricity. It is pertinent to mention that WAPDA is vigorously implementing a least-cost energy generation plan to enhance the share of hydel electricity in the National Grid. A number of mega projects are being constructed in the hydropower sector scheduled to be completed from 2023 to 2028-29. WAPDA projects will double the installed hydel power generation capacity from 9406 MW to 18431 MW. Likewise, WAPDA’s contribution of green and clean hydel electricity to the National Grid will also increase from the existing 37 billion units to more than 81 billion units per annum.

Matiari – Lahore Transmission Line project achieves its COD

The flagship project under CPEC ±660 kV HVDC Matiari – Lahore Transmission Line had achieved its commercial operation date successfully on 01 Sep 2021 as per the agreed timeline between National Transmission and Despatch Company Ltd (NTDC) and Pak Matiari-Lahore Transmission Line Company (PMLTC).

Prior to its COD, as many as 8 power tests on different voltage levels were performed successfully. The power test include Commissioning Tests (DC Station Tests) Lahore Commissioning Tests (DC Station Tests) Matiari, Mono-pole Low Power System Tests (Upto 400 MW each pole) , Bi-pole Low Power System Tests (Upto 800 MW Bi-pole), Mono-pole High Power Tests (2200 MW, each pole) (A5:),Bi-pole High Power Tests at Maximum Available Power (MAP), Special Optional Tests (recommended by OE). Whereas, the last test i.e Trial Operation (168 hrs) and Capability Demonstration Test (06 hrs) has been successfully completed on 18.08.2021.

In this regard, a ceremony was held at WAPDA House Lahore, attended by Managing Director NTDC Engr. Azaz Ahmad and Ms Zhang Lei, President and CEO of PMLTC and other reps from both companies were also present on the occasion.

Managing Director NTDC Engr. Azaz Ahmad appreciated Chinese company for completion of the project in time.  He said that the first ±660 kV HVDC Matiari Lahore Transmission Line will bring stability in NTDC transmission network after having being crossed many bridges successfully.

The 878 kilometers 4000 MW project has been completed by Pak-Matiari Lahore Transmission Company (Pvt) Limited, on Built-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis for a term of 25 years. The project will evacuate power from the new generating units located in the south including Thar coal-based projects. The ECC on July 25, 2017 approved the Security Package Documents i.e. Implementation Agreement (lA) and Transmission Services Agreement (TSA) which were subsequently executed on May 14, 2018. The NTDC will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the transmission line.

HVDC technology is a maiden addition in the national grid of the country, though it’s been widely used for a long time around the world, and the need of long-distance high-power transmission from generating stations in the far-flung areas towards densely located load centers. The said project is a milestone for NTDC when it comes to diversifying the national grid and it will serve a great deal towards NTDC mission of a reliable, efficient and stable national grid.

 

Minister for IT Syed Amin chaired meeting of PM’s Taskforce on IT & Telecom

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Syed Amin Ul Haque chaired the 12th meeting of Prime Minister’s Taskforce on IT & Telecom. Secretary IT Dr. Sohail Rajput, Chairman P@SHA Barkan Saeed, and MD Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) Osman Nasir were also present in the meeting. The meeting discussed matters related to spectrum auction, connectivity, and fibrization. Addressing the meeting, Federal Minister for IT Syed Amin Ul Haque said that strong directions are being issued for bringing improvements in mobile network and Internet services in the country. More steps will be taken for skill development and branding Pakistan in the world, he said. He said positive results are coming following the implementation of Taskforce proposals. Earlier, the participants of the meeting expressed complete satisfaction with all the initiatives of the Ministry of IT & Telecom. The meeting was also given a detailed briefing on steps for the development of the IT and Telecom sector besides different policies. The meeting was attended by senior officers of MOITT.

Saudi Arabia approved financing of Rs.37bln for Mohmand Hydropower Project

SAUDI AMBASSADOR MEETS FEDERAL MINISTER

Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Pakistan H.E. Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Malkiy called on the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Mr. Omar Ayub Khan in his office. The Saudi Ambassador apprised the Minister for Economic Affairs about successful visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to Saudi Arabia and shared its outcomes.

During the meeting, the Saudi Ambassador informed that Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has approved 901 million Saudi Riyal (Rs. 37.4 billion) for Mohmand Hydropower Project. The SFD has approved this financing at highly concessional terms with 2% interest rate and 25-years repayment period.

This dam will be constructed on Swat River in District Mohmand of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province and generate 800MW electricity. It will also irrigate 16,000 acre land and boost agriculture productivity in the region. This dam will play vital role in socioeconomic uplift of the province. Minister for Economic Affairs highlighted that Mohmand Hydropower Project will not only help unleash hydropower potential of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province but also improve energy security by increasing share of hydel power in the country’s energy mix. “Our government is focusing on environment friendly and affordable energy through development of solar, wind and hydel resources”, he added. The Minister for

Economic Affairs appreciated the Saudi support in the priority development areas.

Both the sides also discussed the bilateral economic cooperation and committed to expedite the implementation of ongoing development projects. The Saudi Ambassador assure of continued support at all level to further strengthen the economic cooperation between the two brotherly countries. The Saudi Ambassador said that the Saudi-side is committed to play a much stronger role in the socioeconomic development of Pakistan. The Ambassador also appreciated the role of Pakistani workers in the development of Saudi Arabia.

   

STZA signs MoU with Rapidev to build Tech Park

 

The Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) and Rapidev DMCC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Technology Park in Pakistan’s first Special Technology Zone (STZ) in Islamabad,

a state-of-the-art development that will facilitate a high-tech business environment. The signing ceremony was held in Islamabad and attended by members of both the organizations, technology sector professionals, and government officials. According to the MoU, both the organizations will work together to achieve high-tech industrial growth, create job opportunities, upskill the youth, and attract Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) through development of a knowledge ecosystem driven by research, innovation and collaboration. Mr. Amer Hashmi, Chairman STZA, stated that the Technology Park in the Islamabad STZ will encourage innovative solutions and provide futuristic entrepreneurship opportunities for the youth of Pakistan. The STZA team also addressed how the Special Technology Zones (STZs) have the potential to change the economic outlook of Pakistan by enhancing IT exports and encouraging technology and knowledge transfer from global technology hubs. The signing of the MoU between the organisations means that the groundwork is in place for STZA’s flagship project, the Islamabad STZ, to break ground soon. The 3 Pol (People, Purpose, Passion) Technology Park by Rapidev, will spread over an area of 650,000 sq. ft. which will offer a complete ecosystem including all the necessary facilities to foster innovation. The facilities offered to resident companies will include technology towers, cutting edge R&D labs, production and manufacturing plants, certified testing centres, wellness facilities and a Centre of Excellence. . With an investment US$ 100 million, the project is expected to create more than 5000 highly skilled jobs and generate over US$ 200 million of revenue in the coming few years. By the addition of a Research and Training academy at the Park, Mr. Wajid Gulistan, Chief Executive Officer of Rapidev, also envisions to equip the youth of Pakistan with high-tech knowledge and skills. While addressing the gathering, Mr. Gulistan stated that the Park will be a one-of-its-kind in Pakistan – a hub of research, innovation, and technology. He mentioned that the aim will be to provide all resident companies, including start-ups, SMES and multi-nationals with access to all available facilities. He concluded by stating that “Our mission is to make Pakistan the fastest growing exporting country in the world and make ‘Made in Pakistan’ a symbol of quality”. The MoU with Rapidev DMCC on 3 Pol Technology Park is STZA’s second recent one after the former MoU was signed with iEngineering Corporation. It is envisioned that a cluster of Technology Parks will form within the Islamabad STZ as the Zone materializes over the years.

DISCUSSION OVER REFINERY POLICY

In a meeting Federal Minister for Power Hammad Azhar, SAPM on Power Tabish Gauhar, SAPM on Finance and Revenue Dr. Waqar Masood, Adviser to PM on Institutional Reforms and Austerity Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Secretary Finance, Secretary Petroleum, Chairman FBR, DG Oil and Petroleum Division, Member Board of Directors PARCO & PRL and Consultant Attock Refinery Limited participated the meeting. The meeting was held at Finance Division to discuss the draft Refinery Policy.

The representatives of the refineries told that oil refineries operating in Pakistan cater for 55% of petroleum needs of the country and directly contribute to energy security. Installation of oil refineries requires heavy investment. Last Refineries Policy was announced by the government in 1997. Since 1997, due to change in realities on the ground, working for oil refineries has become more difficult with the passage of time. Oil refineries currently are facing multiple problems including decline in profit margins.

They emphasized the need for Government support for increased investments to meet the requirement of Euro-v fuels and value added products through installation of deep conversion refineries. Finance Minister directed the concerned officers of Finance Division and Chairman FBR to come with concrete proposals regarding the proposed policy in consultation with all stakeholders including representatives of oil refineries, Ministry of Petroleum and other relevant forums.

WAPDA awards contract worth US$ 241 million for E&M works of Tarbela 5th Ext. HPP

INTERNATIONAL JV TRIUMPH THE CONTRACT Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) awarded contract amounting to US$ 241.1 million for electro-mechanical (E&M) works of the 1530 MW-Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project to a joint venture comprising Harbin Electric International Company and Harbin Electric Machinery Company (HEIC-HEMC) through an international competitive bidding. The E&M contract was signed by Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project Director (PD) Muhammad Azam Joya and HEIC-HEMC Vice President Zhang Yulong on behalf of their organizations. WAPDA Chairman Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain (Retd), WAPDA Member Finance Naveed Asghar, Member Water Abdul Zahir Khan Durrani, Managing Director (Administration) Khalid Saleem, WAPDA Secretary Fakhar uz zaman Ali Cheema, General Managers concerned and representatives of the Consultants also attended the ceremony. It is worth mentioning that WAPDA has already awarded contract for civil works of the project in May. Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman said that Tarbela 5th Extension is yet another WAPDA project to meet energy needs of the country with low-cost and environment-friendly hydel electricity, adding that WAPDA is committed to complete this vital project in accordance with the timelines. Referring to the WAPDA’s strategy for improving water situation and increasing share of hydel electricity in the National Grid, he said that WAPDA is constructing 10 mega projects in water and hydropower sectors to meet rapidly increasing requirements of water and electricity in the country. These projects are scheduled to be completed from 2023 to 2028-29. In addition to enhancing gross water storage capacity by 11.7 million acre feet (MAF), WAPDA projects will also double the installed hydel power generation capacity from 9406 MW to 20591 MW. Likewise, WAPDA’s contribution of green and clean hydel electricity to the National Gird will also increase from the existing 37 billion units to more than 81 billion units per annum. Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project is being constructed on Tunnel No. 5 of Tarbela Dam with approved PC-I of US$ 807 million. International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) of World Bank is providing US$ 390 million, while Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to the tune of US$ 300 million. Cumulative generation capacity of the project stands at 1530 MW with three generating units of 510 MW each. The project, scheduled to start electricity generation by mid-2024, will provide 1.347 billion units of low-cost hydel electricity to the National Grid on the average every year. With completion of Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project, installed capacity at Tarbela Dam will rise from 4888 MW to 6418 MW.  

Construction work on Kachhi Canal Extension Project is begin by WAPDA

has commenced construction work on the extension of Kachhi Canal following award of the contract and mobilization of the contractors to the sites.

The extension of Kachhi Canal is being carried out through three different contracts with cumulative cost of Rs.19.504 billion. Under the works, existing main canal will be further extended by another 40 kilometers (Km). In addition, 32-Km long water distribution system will also be constructed in the command area to irrigate another 30,000 acres of land in Dera Bugti district of Balochistan. The extension works are scheduled to be completed by August 2022.

WAPDA has already constructed 363-Km main canal and 81-Km long allied water distribution system to irrigate 72,000 acres of land. The canal, with discharge capacity of 6000 cusecs that takes off from Taunsa Barrage in Muzaffargarh district of Punjab enters Balochistan in Dera Bugti district.

Kachhi Canal is a vital project to alleviate poverty and eradicate extremism in remote and backward areas of Balochistan by developing irrigated agriculture and agro-based economy in the province. It is a good omen for Balochistan that the land being cultivated in Sui and adjacent areas of Dera Bugti district through existing Kachhi Canal has brought in a phenomenal change in the livelihood of the locals.

NESPAK looks to grasp an opportunity to work in developing recently liberated areas

A two-member delegation from National Engineering Services Pakistan (Pvt) Limited (NESPAK) led by Managing Director Dr. Tahir Masood visited Baku, Azerbaijan for business appraisal. It was a high profile visit in the wake of rehabilitation of recently liberated areas of Karabakh region in Azerbaijan as there is an opportunity for the Top Pakistani Engineering Consultant to work there and share development efforts of the brotherly nation of Azerbaijan.

During the visit, the delegation held separate meetings with Mr. Mikayil Jabbarov, the Minister of Economy, Mr. Inam Karimov, the Minister of Agriculture and Mr. Ilgar Isbatov, the Chairman of State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan as well as senior officials of the Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Ecology. During the meetings, the delegation made presentations highlighting the expertise of their services in the field of Engineering Consultancy.

At the meetings, the hosts appreciated the services and experience of NESPAK in the development sector and showed keen interest to engage NESPAK for upcoming projects in Azerbaijan.

Ambassador Bilal Hayee accompanied the delegation during all these meetings and highlighted the ongoing warm relationship between the two countries and also desired to enhance the cooperation in the development sector.  It is worthy to be mentioned here that NESPAK has already been providing top class engineering consultancy services in Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone and has recently secured a hydropower project in Uzbekistan.

Vestas receives 145 MW order from Leeward Renewable Energy to power the Panorama Wind Farm in the US

PORTLAND: Vestas has secured a 145 MW order to power the Panorama Wind Farm in Colorado, U.S., which is owned by Leeward Renewable Energy.

This order consists of a mix of 2 MW platform turbines including V120-2.2 MW, V110-2.2 MW, and V110-2.0 MW turbines. This order follows Vestas’ earlier agreement with Leeward Renewable Energy to supply 61 MW of V110-2.0 MW and V120-2.2 MW turbines to repower the Crescent Ridge Wind project in Illinois.

Turbine delivery will begin in the third quarter of 2021 and construction is expected to be completed in December 2021.

BASF and Harvest sign Joint Development Agreement for the use of Elastopor® Cryo in prefabricated insulation pipes

SHANGHAI: BASF and Shanghai Harvest Insulation Engineering Co. Ltd (Harvest) have signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to develop prefabricated cryogenic pipes made with BASF’s polyurethane rigid foam system, Elastopor® Cryo.

The signing ceremony took place in the company’s joint exhibition booth located at the 7th China LNG & Gas International Exhibition & Summit in Shanghai. According to the agreement, BASF will conduct product development and testing in its laboratories and technical services. Harvest will undertake responsibility for the design and production of the prefabricated pipes.

“By prefabricating the pipes in our plant, we can achieve increased production efficiency, which translates to lower operating costs and more savings for customers and end-users. Furthermore, thanks to BASF’s Elastopor Cryo solution, the pipes have superior fire performance with Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) of > 30% and high strength,” said Mr. Cheng Zhen Feng, Chairman of Harvest.

Apart from insulating pipes, Elastopor Cryo can also be used as a core insulation material for cryogenic containment systems, providing robust, maintenance-free, and outstanding thermal insulation for the transportation of liquefied gases at extremely low temperatures, ranging from minus 60°C to minus 163°C.

NASA chief hails ‘unique’ Russia-US cooperation in space

“WE ARE PARTNERS IN SPACE, AND I DON’T WANT THAT TO CEASE,”

WASHINGTON: The Russian-US cooperation in space is unique and extraordinary and must not cease, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said in an interview after talks with Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin.”Despite the politics, and some of the rather less than soft statements you hear that sound more political, nevertheless if you talk to the Russian space workers, they want this cooperation to continue with the Americans. So I talked to Rogozin about this. I’ve said, ‘This is unique, the kind of relationship where we can be at peace cooperating with each other, no matter what our rivalries are on terra firma.” We are partners in space, and I don’t want that to cease,” Nelson said.

He added that Russia and the United States have “extraordinary cooperation” in space.

“We’ve seen, for example, just recently they’ve got some kind of module that they are going to launch to the International Space Station, which I think is a pretty good indication that they’re not going to abandon it in four years,” Nelson continued.

“Our politics have become very strained. But where is the one area that we have been able to cooperate? It’s been ever since 1975 when an American spacecraft in the middle of the Cold war rendezvoused and docked with a Russian spacecraft, and the crews lived together for nine days. Ever since we have been cooperating,” the NASA chief said.

Earlier, Rogozin said, he hoped that NASA formulates its position on cooperation with the Russian state corporation before the summit of Russian and American presidents in Geneva without being “a passive observer.” Prior to that, he said Russia could only plan to cooperate with the US in space after the US sanctions against Russian space enterprises were lifted.

China and Russia to launch 6 lunar missions in 2021-2025 to build international Moon base

“THE MISSIONS WILL USE CHINESE CZ-3B AND CZ-5 LAUNCH VEHICLES & RUSSIAN SOYUZ-2”

BEIJING: China and Russia are planning to launch six missions within the preparatory stage of building an international Moon base, Pei Zhaoyu, deputy director of the Lunar Exploration and Space Program Centre of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), said during the GLEX-2021 conference.

According to the presentation, the first investigative stage will last from 2021 to 2025. China plans to send three missions within this period: Chang’e 4, Chang’e 6 and Chang’e 7. Russia plans to launch an automatic station “Luna 25,” lunar polar orbiter “Luna 26” and lunar lander “Luna 27”. The missions will use Chinese CZ-3B and CZ-5 launch vehicles, as well as Russia’s Soyuz-2.

The goal of this stage is to choose an area for constructing a station and to develop the technology for a highly accurate soft landing on the Moon. According to the presentation, China and Russia have not ruled out “launching potential missions of other partners”.

On March 9, Russia’s State Space Corporation Roscosmos and the China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced that they had signed a memorandum of mutual understanding on behalf of their governments on cooperation in creating an international scientific lunar station. Russia and China are planning to use their joint experience and scientific technologies to create a roadmap for building a station on the Moon. Bilateral cooperation in this sphere envisages both studying the lunar surface and implementing joint projects in the orbit of the Earth’s natural satellite.
